HIPS Material Properties - High Impact Polystyrene

HIPS Material Summary

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is cheap, rigid, ideal for machining and has good impact resistance. It is commonly found in counter-top displays, kiosks, packaging peanuts and disposable cutlery. It is commonly used in injection moulding, plastic extrusion and especially vacuum forming processes. Compared to general purpose polystyrene, HIPS is significantly less brittle and is opaque. HIPS is not UV resistant.
